James Nachtwey is one of the most influential photojournalists and war photographers of the late 20th century.
Nachtwey started work as a newspaper photographer in New Mexico, in 1980, he moved to New York to begin a career as a freelance magazine photographer. His first foreign assignment was to cover civil strife in Northern Ireland in 1981. Since then, Nachtwey has devoted himself to documenting wars, conflicts and critical social issues throughout the world.
He has worked on extensive photographic essays in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza, Israel, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa, Russia, Bosnia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Romania, Brazil and the United States.

Wow, adding his homepage to my favorites immediately. This really is some amazing work.
by the way, i can’t get his “photogallery” to work in firefox or flock… the javascript swapimg thing doesn’t want to work.
Wow, stunning work. The scars on that guy’s face and head are just wicked.
Aye I noticed that to, it must be using some IE only javascript. The photos there are not on the other sites so it’s worth checking out when you get to a PC.
What amazes me amongst other things is he seems to have been just about everywhere, even NYC on 9/11. Being able to do all that is some serious dedication to your work.
